From routine concerns to complex conditions, our practice is committed to providing unparalleled care, ensuring your feet are in the hands of seasoned professionals.

Corns /Callus

Callus is caused by excess pressure on any part of the foot. A Corn may occur at the point of greatest pressure. They may occur on top of the toes, in between toes, on the ball of the foot and heels. These lesions can cause great discomfort when they develop on the foot; great relief is gained when appropriately treated.

Ingrowing Toe Nails (Onychocryptosis)

Ingrowing toe nails occur when a spike or edge of the nail digs into the skin, causing the skin to become red, inflamed, bleeds easily and infection often enters the wound and pus may be present. The condition is extremely painful. Immediate relief is gained when treated by the podiatrist.

Athletes Foot (Fungal Infection)

People who suffer with sweaty feet often develop Athletes Foot which is a fungal infection, which causes severe itching, irritation and scaling of the skin, especially in between the toes. Nails can become infected with fungal spores which leads to thickening and discoloration.

Thickened Nails (Onychogryphosis)

Nails become thickened due to damage to the nail bed i.e. where the nail grows from. The thickness of a nail can lead to pressure on the nail bed, leading to pain. Great relief can be gained with the appropriate podiatry care.

Sweaty Feet (Bromhidrosis)

Bromhidrosis is the medical term for sweaty feet, this is excessive perspiration of the foot and can improved with the appropriate treatment and advice from the podiatrist.

Involuted Nails

Involuted nails are often mistakenly called in-growing toe nails. Involuted nails are nails which have become extremely curved and pinch the skin. The painful condition is eased with the appropriate podiatry care.

Bunions

Hallux Abductus Valgus is the medical term for bunion, this is a bony deformity of the 1st Metatarsal Phalangeal joint, this is the joint that is found behind the Great toe, basically the joint buckles due to the forces of walking and is usually caused over pronation.

Verrucae

Verrucae and warts are thought to be caused by a virus and can be infectious. They are very common in young adults and children, being less frequent in middle and old age. Some Verrucae can be painful depending on the site they appear on the foot.

Cryotherapy is a freezing process utilising Liquid Nitrogen to treat lesions such as Verrucae. This process leads to the treated site blistering an causes discomfort. But there is good evidence based fact for utilising this method of treatment on Verrucae. There is NO 100% proof of success when treating verruca most treatments with clinical evidence show a 70% success rate is the best achieved

Chilblains

Chilblains are small itchy red swellings on the skin, if they become severe or are scratched they may break open and infection can result. Chilblains occur more commonly throughout the colder months.

Diabetic Foot Screening

If you have diabetes it is important that you have your feet checked by a Podiatrist on a regular basis. Patients with Diabetes should undergo Diabetic Foot Screening at least once a year, so that any complications of the diabetic foot can be picked up on as soon as possible.

Our Podiatrists will be able to treat any routine foot problems which may have developed. They can give advice on the best foot care and footwear for the diabetic foot. If you are a Diabetic patient with any problems or complications of the foot, you will be given a priority appointment to receive treatment same day.

Nail Surgery

If an in-growing toenail problem persists despite routine podiatry treatment, Nail Surgery may be advised. This simple procedure involves Local Anaesthetic, tourniquet, removal of offending nail section, then phenolisation to stop any re-growth. The results are excellent. Post operatively patients are delighted that a reoccurring problem is resolved one and for all. Patients who potentially require nail surgery should be aware that with all procedures complications may occur. These would be fully discussed prior to any treatment.

Home Visit / Domicillary Visit

Nursing / Residential Care Home visits

We are happy to offer an extensive podiatry / chiropody service to both Nursing and Residential Homes. We provide regular visits offering routine podiatry / chiropody foot care for all residents.
Ensuring the patients feet are kept in the best possible state of care and comfort, treating each individual patient with the privacy and dignity they require.

Biomechanics and Gait Analysis

Both of our podiatrists are trained to assess patients gait and diagnose the appropriate treatment to improve a patient’s gait cycle, which can involve the manufacture and provision of inlays/orthotics.

Inlays/orthotics can provide comfort to a foot with injury and may also support the foot as necessary reducing pronation, encouraging a more economical gait cycle.

General Question

Explore our answers to these general questions and gain valuable insights into foot health, treatments, and the specialised care we provide at Brennan Podiatry.

You should consider consulting a podiatrist for various reasons, including foot pain, discomfort, or changes in the appearance of your feet or nails. If you have existing medical conditions such as diabetes, arthritis, or circulatory issues, regular podiatric check-ups are advisable to prevent complications. Additionally, athletes, individuals with structural foot abnormalities, or those seeking preventive foot care can benefit from consulting a podiatrist.

A podiatry appointment typically involves a thorough examination of your feet, lower limbs, and relevant medical history. The podiatrist may assess your gait, check for abnormalities, and discuss any specific concerns you have. Depending on your condition, treatment options may include advice on footwear, exercises, custom orthotics, or in some cases, minor surgical procedures. The goal is to provide personalised care tailored to your individual needs.

The coverage for podiatry treatments varies depending on your insurance plan and the specific nature of the treatment. Many health insurance plans do cover podiatry services, especially when deemed medically necessary. It's advisable to check with your insurance provider to understand the extent of your coverage and any potential out-of-pocket expenses. Always consult with your podiatrist about billing and insurance-related queries to ensure clarity and transparency in your treatment plan.
